This “O Christmas Tree” afghan makes a fun design for your Christmas and winter holiday decor! It is designed with a simple repeating pattern of Christmas trees, both in the main pattern color, and the reversed direction background color like a kind of optical illusion, depending on how you look at it.

This pattern is done in overlay mosaic style. If you are new to mosaic crochet, there are many wonderful tutorials on YouTube that can help you familiarize yourself with the technique. Any confident advanced beginner to intermediate crochet enthusiast can pick this up quickly! The basic stitches required are chain, slip stitches, single and double crochets.

This afghan is customizable to be any size you’d like. Directions for the size pictured are included in the pattern with specific instructions on number of repeats and stitch counts for a completed size of approximately 52”x60” when using a worsted 4-weight yarn and a size 4.25 mm/G crochet hook.

I had fun working it up with a mix of colors that were bright and fun which made it a great stash buster, and I can’t wait to see it made up in other colors as well!
The pattern is a downloadable PDF file containing several pages including both chart and written instructions that outline the process, as well as some links to tutorials that are very helpful to learn the overlay mosaic technique.

Between 3400-3800 yards of worsted weight yarn (approximately 1500-1700 yards of white, and then 1500-1700 of the 5 different colors) were used. If you choose to add a border or use a different weight yarn, you can adjust yarn amount needed.
