WANT TO MODIFY THE PATTERN? To adjust the hat size (based on your gauge), multiple your desired finished brim circumference (e.g. 24”) by your sts per inch gauge (e.g. 5 sts per inch) to arrive at a number (24 x 5 = 120). Adjust that number up or down to be a multiple of 4 for the cast on. Once the brim is complete, adjust your st count to be a multiple of 9 to work the body (e.g. decrease 120 to 117 sts).

If you need more help with modifying patterns, I have a masterclass available here with video and written steps.

For me, knitting and crocheting is a bit of magic. When I design something new or just stitching a piece, doing the math to make it fit just so feels like sorcery, obeah. And I want you to feel that way too with this pattern by including information to help you with the math to get YOUR perfect fit.

I don’t know what it is about a handmade hat, but as soon as I’ve stitched one up, every member of my family wants one too… and of course, every head is a different size. So, of course, there is some sizing and grading to be done to make it fit each person. With the cable and lace pattern in the Obeah Hat, we’ll explore how to make your handmade items fit every time. It’s not magic, but it will feel like it.

PATTERN NOTES
The Obeah Hat is worked in the round from the bottom up, beginning with a fun twisted rib. The crown finishes with a striking square top, making this hat a beautiful piece, whether you’re coming or going.
