The inspiration for this cowl pattern was a vintage knitted edging pattern from which I drew the pattern stitch. This pattern uses DK or light worsted yarn and a size 7 (4.5 mm) needle. A picot cast-on emphasizes the chevron shape of the pattern stitch and a cabled bind off both ensures an elastic edge and gives weight and drape to the fabric, the resulting cowl is lacy without being frilly and reminds me of the ocean surf after a storm.

ERRATA:

If you purchased this pattern before 9/25/22, the Cast On instructions are incorrect. Instead, do this:

Using knitted cast on, CO 12. Kfb last st made, pass first st on RH needle over second st, k next st without removing st from LH needle, pass prev st over st just made, k same st on LH needle tbl, pass prev st over st just made. Move st on RH needle to LH needle. 12 sts made, with picot between 10th and 11th st. CO 12. Rep from 11 more times, for a total of 132 sts and 12 picots.
