I like to welcome the new year in with a dip in the sea. I gather up some friends and head to the coast for a lovely cold sea-swim followed by a warming hot chocolate while I wait for feeling to return to my fingers and toes.

We’re kicking off the year of catsocks with a little sea-swiming adventure, too. We’re diving down deep to greet the Octokitty, our benevolent feline-cephalopod ruler of the depths.

Octokitty combines colourwork with some gentle cables - but there’s also a colourwork-only chart provided for a more straightforward knit.

Sizing

Full details are provided for five leg circumferences (15.5cm, 17.75cm, 20cm, 22.25cm & 24.5cm), and there’s plenty of guidance for adjusting the leg and foot lengths.

Toes and heels

Full instructions for flap & gusset, short row & afterthought heels, as well as round and wedge-shaped toes.

This is the first sock in The Year Of Catsock Adventures, an expanding collection of eight catsocks released throughout 2024 (a new pattern every two months, plus two very scrap-friendly socks at the end).
