Joji Locatelli’s pattern “3 Color Cashmere Cowl” was published on Ravelry in January 2015 and quickly became a knitter’s staple pattern. When I reimagined this pattern to highlight Katia Concept’s Silky Lace, I found that I had more than enough leftover yarn to make a hat, hence this pattern, which pays homage to Joji’s original cowl, was born! This hat borrows from the textured stitches, stripes and color play of the original while the crown decreases recall the chevrons in the lace motif.

You can use any fingering weight yarn in 3 or more colors. US4 (3.5mm) 16” circular needles were used for the whole hat, though knitting the ribbing with a needle one size smaller can help if you find hats slip off your head and you need a tighter rib to combat this. DPNs or magic loop can be used to close off the top of the hat.
