Design info…

When I designed my very first knitting pattern, I took my inspiration from my lifelong love of the ballet. It is to the grace and beauty of prima ballerinas past and present that I have returned once again in designing the Odette Sweater.

The deceptively simple lace pattern echoes the delicate feathers of the enchanted swan maiden Odette, dancing on the shores of Swan Lake long into the night. Increases are worked effortlessly into the pattern to give a timeless, romantic elegance, reminiscent of the prima ballerinas who have captivated audiences with their portrayal of the beautiful Odette.

Odette is a seamless sweater which is knit in one piece, from the top down and in the round. Charts and written instructions are provided for the lace pattern. Delicate eyelets have been included at the cuff, giving an extra touch of elegance.

Odette has been designed to give a classic, flattering fit on all body types, making it a versatile wardrobe staple that you will return to again and again. Whatever the occasion, I hope that Odette will bring a special touch of magic to your outfit and help you feel as beautiful as you truly are…xxx

This sweater is designed with proportional ease, which means that the amount of positive ease is based on body measurements to achieve a consistent fit across all sizes. It is intended to be worn with 5.75 7.75, 7.25, 7.5, 7.25, 8.5, 10.25, 10, 11.75 in (13 17.5, 16.5, 17, 16.5, 19.5, 23.5, 23, 27 cm of positive ease at the bust.

I would encourage you to choose your size based on your upper bust circumference to achieve a good fit across the neck and shoulders. The proportional ease within the pattern will help accommodate your full bust circumference. If you require a looser, slouchier fit then you could consider choosing a size based on your full bust measurement.

Full finished measurements are provided within the pattern.

Yarn info…

Yarn requirements
Approximately 1001 1189, 1299, 1428, 1544, 1770, 1941, 2127, 2335 yards (917 1090, 1190, 1308, 1414, 1622, 1778, 1949, 2139 metres of fingering weight yarn

For my sample (shown in pale pink) I used approximately 1308m (1428 yds) of Drops Baby Merino yarn (175m (191 yds) per 50g) for the size L. This is a heavy fingering weight yarn. Some of my test knitters chose to use a lighter fingering weight yarn held double with a strand of mohair to meet the gauge given in the pattern and their finished sweaters look AMAZING!

The additional sample shown was knit using Sewrella Classic Sock yarn (100% superwash merino) held with a strand of Knit Picks Aloft. The sample was knit in the size M using approximately 1060 yards of each yarn.

Odette features two sleeve options, a classic tapered sleeve and a bell or bishop sleeve.

Written and charted instructions are given for the lace yoke.
