This adorable tea cosy with two honey bees buzzing about their business is called ‘Oh Bee-Hive tea cosy’ and was designed for the Simply Knitting Magazine issue 189 which went on sale on the 8th August 2019.

If you haven’t tried the honeycomb knitting stitch before you will love how simple and effective it is. You only work with one colour at a time on a row, and slowly the amazing honeycomb appears.

The bees are knitted separately and sew on afterwards. I knitted two bees, but you could knit a whole colony if you wanted.

Around the openings for the teapot handle and spout are white flowers. They are knitted in one part and create a double row of petals for a lovely full looking bloom.

I think this tea cosy feels like a lazy vintage summer.

With so much in the news about the decline in honey bee populations and the rise in interest of beekeeping, I think this tea cosy is going to be embraced and enjoyed by lots of people. With National Honey Bee Day at the end of August, now is the perfect time to get your hands on the pattern and get knitting! Can’t wait to see your photos of your projects!
