Okadaya is a craft megastore in the Shinjuku area of Tokyo. My trips to this store and to its treasure of local and international yarns inspire this quick hat pattern.

The Japanese appreciate the details and you can give your hat its own finishing touch with crocheted pompoms. This stash-busting hat looks best in a self-striping yarn like the gorgeous Noro I found in Okadaya or any bulky yarn. Sizes are provided for the whole family.

If choosing other suitable yarns, I recommend a single-ply gradient or self striping bulky yarn in wool or wool/cotton blend.
