These potholders are inspired by the typical Dutch dish-towel, called ‘pompdoek’, meaning a towel you bring to the water pump (mostly outside), before running water existed.
Nowadays, these towels are very much in vogue again and fit very well in both a countryside style as in a modern kitchen.
If you know any Dutch people abroad, these potholders would be a very nice present. They will immediately recognize it and feel nostalgic. Traditionally the colours are dark blue and white, but of course you can use any colour you want.
If you’re new to double-knitting, this a good project to start with (it was my first double-knitting project), and it will give you the muscle memory you need for more complicated patterns.
You’ll need 25 gr of each colour per potholder, so with one ball of yarn of each colors you make two potholders.
