The heart is unique in its capacity to grow. It makes room for more love by expanding immeasurably, and does not necessarily require us to sacrifice an existing love for the sake of a new one. This is a wonderful phenomenon when it comes to family and friends, but can cause problems where lovers or vices are concerned! Here’s a shawl that illustrates this principle both in color and form: an old favorite colorway can be paired with your latest infatuation, while the easy, popular construction embraces a new and different shape. Don’t worry – there’s room in your heart for Old Love, New Flames!

Created in collaboration with Malabrigo Yarn for their Freelance Patterns Project.
