This pattern is part of my Classic Horror Films series, to create an overlay mosaic crochet rectangular banner that can be used in other types of projects, such as wall hangings, table runners, blankets, etc.

Any yarn or hook will work, depending on the desired size of the finished square. I used yarn weight of 4 with a 5.5 hook, which creates a rectangle of 33.5” wide x 13” tall. (image shows optional border, increasing the dimensions by 2 inches in both directions.)

To do the sample image, you will need 2 colors of yarn, all in the same yarn weight. The B rows (background) take approximately 3-4 oz total (200 yards), and the A rows (black border, scrolls & letters) take slightly less than that amount.
