Late summer is always the kick-off of hat season for me, so what better way to ease into fall than with a fun little color work project? “Oliver” is great for gift knitting or a perfect first project to get into three colors at a time colorwork.

PATTERN NOTES:

This pattern gives you several options to choose from. Instructions come for a shorter, more fitted hat or a longer, slouchier version, all in 6 different sizes, from baby to adult L. You can also choose between a regular and a folded brim.

The hat is worked bottom up in the round and starts with a tubular cast-on for 2x2 ribbing. An adjustment round immediately after the brim sets the stitch count for the colorwork pattern, which is worked using three colors at a time for most of the chart. Then there are a few plain colored rounds (depending on your chosen version) to knit before the hat is finished with shaping for the crown.

The pattern provides many helpful tips and comes with a coloring page to try out and play around with different color combinations.
