One Less Traveled By
This is an unusual sock construction pattern. It is begun at the base of the heel, with a multidirectional flap. The knitting then proceeds to wrap around the bottom and outside of the foot, until you reach the toes, which are shaped and knit in the round. Then stitches are picked up for the remainder of the foot, with a short row heel turn on the inside of the leg. Finally the knitting is joined in the round again, and proceeds up the leg. It may be challenging, and is definitely an adventure.
There are four sizes, for US women’s shoe sizes 7, 8, 9, and 10, with stitch counts of 56 (64, 72, 80). For a good fit, I think that foot circumference is more important in this pattern than foot length. The sock can easily be made longer, and possibly shorter, though that will be a more fiddly change. Measuring around the ball of your foot, the sizes are approximately:
XS = 8”-8.5”/20.3cm-21.6cm
S = 9”-9.5”/22.6cm-24.1cm
M = 10”-10.5”/25cm-26.6cm
L = 11”-11.5”/27.9cm-29.2cm
