Everyone knows it, everyone has it - this one beautiful, hand dyed skein of yarn. It varies in colors, it has speckles or both, it waits for that one, special project, which somehow doesn’t come. This yarn is just too special to fit into larger projects. It has too many variations in itself, so that any structural or contrasting pattern just gets lost.

“Cheshire Cat” is a shawl that is knitted from one skein of yarn and brings the color pattern of the yarn into focus. Therefore, it has a very simple, smooth stockinette design. Elaborate structure or lace patterns, even on the edges of the shawl, were deliberately avoided. The shawl is knitted sideways along the long edge from one point over the middle to the opposite point. Through one-sided increases and decreases the third point of the triangle is formed downwards. The upper edge of the shawl is knitted using slipped stitches to form a fake brioche border. At the bottom edge six stitches are worked in garter stitch to avoid too much curling of the finished shawl.
