One Squared Purse is constructed with a single square at the base, then the sides are worked up from the base in one piece. However it creates the exact same shape as the Haekelbeutel purse pattern without having to crochet 16 squares together. It is done in a richly textured seed stitch. The seed stitch not only has a beautiful texture to it but as it is half chain stitches works up quickly. The added bonus it makes the yarn stretch farther. The handles are a very easy I-cord. Pattern calls for 3/8 Inch grommets which give a nice finished look to the purse. I buy my grommets from the hardware store. Purse pictured was made using Caron Simply Soft, but Cotton yarn could be easily substituted. Measurements of purse pictured are 14’“X9” but pattern with it’s one row repeat for the base and also a one row repeat for the sides make it super easy to change the size to suit your preference. Directions are given to change the size. As an added bonus the base square of this purse makes a great dishcloth. Check out my Seed stitch square to see examples. Also check out my Half Squared pattern for this stitch done in a half square. It makes a beautiful matching shawl. Flower and leaves on purse is included in the pattern.
