There is a critically important election coming up this year in the United States (and many other democracies around the world) and this pattern is intended to Call on Congress to ensure a fair & free election

Recently in the New York Times, Dan Coats called on Congress to form a nonpartisan committee and commit “ — by oath — to put partisan politics aside even in the midst of an electoral contest of such importance.” and “put the integrity and fairness of the election process above everything else, making public reassurance” your goal.

Let’s help amplify this message! This project takes about 45 minutes (worsted)-3 hours (fingering) to knit. Please take a few hours to ask your congress member to take action & wear this as a symbol that they will fight for us and electoral legitimacy in November. You can find your Senator here and House Representative here. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope to hear back from them on this critical issue. We would love for you to help us organize complete coverage of the House & Senate by signing up here as a Knitter for Democracy.

While America has never lived up to the ideals of our Constitution, we need to keep pushing for candidates who believe that all people in this country are equal and ALL have an equal right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. A democracy not only depends on free & fair elections, it also depends on active participation by the people. We have an opportunity as crafters to show up on social media with a clear statement that no matter where we live and who we are, we believe America can do better.
