This is a cowl or snood in garter stitch. It is made mostly from a scrap ball (or scrap skein) consisting of leftover glitter yarns which are cut and made into a single length with Russian joins. It has a crocheted trim which can be made from the same scrap ball, or from normal yarn. The length of the cowl is adjustable. The fabric has a shabby chic and folksy effect which is part of the character of this piece.

This cowl was designed for women, but it could be a man’s cowl if you omitted the edging and did not use glitter yarn.

Requirements

  • Yarn: Approx 80g (240yd/220m) of any DK or 8 ply yarn of at least 2 colours, made into a scrap ball as described in the pattern. The 80g includes 70g of scrap ball yarn for the main section, and 10g of scrap ball yarn or normal dk yarn for edging.
