A ruffle scarf with gentle and spiral garland effect. Size as per pattern: approx 60in/152cm length, although length is infinitely adjustable.

This is a very simple and brief pattern, using shaping to get the pretty effect; shaping which separates the frills and creates a long and elegant scarf. But here’s the challenge: if you make a single mistake, the shaping doesn’t work and you lose the prettiness in part of your scarf. So if you can knit the whole thing successfully, i.e. with no mistakes in the shaping, so that the whole length looks like a garland as in our pictures - and you upload your project with pictures - we’ll give you another pattern free. (See below for more details).

Requirements

  • Fabric ruffle yarn: For approx 44in/112cm scarf: 100g (17m/19yd); for approx 60in/152cm scarf: 150g (34m/38yd) - OR
  • Scarf yarn: For approx 60in/152cm scarf: 100g (24m/26yd)
  • Needles: Metric 4m; UK and Canadian size 8; US size 6
  • Sewing ndl and fine thread

This is a fully-written pattern.

More details of the above challenge

  • Note that the spiral effect is gentle and inconsistent, so what you are looking for is a twisty garland effect, i.e. not a tight and perfect spiral, but enough twist to prevent very large areas of visible frill-backing occurring on one side.

  • This pattern is not difficult, but it does require concentration. It is not suitable for a complete beginner, but if you’re a moderately experienced knitter you will find it easy after a little while although it’s not a fast knit.

  • If you have purchased the pattern and uploaded a project with images of your successful Opus 605, please contact Cablemabel or Funkyforty on Ravelry, and we’ll send your chosen free pattern to your Rav library.

  • You can take the challenge using any ruffle scarf yarn.
