Oree Shoth is blind but she can see the colours of magic. No-nonsense and stubborn, she’s my favourite character in Broken Kingdoms. The colours in Hawthorne reminded me of the descriptions of magic in N.K. Jemisin’s books and this shawl was the result.

One skein of yarn will get you a decent scarflette, while two will give you enough for a wrap. Hawthorne plumps up beautifully in the washer and dryer, making this one of the easiest yarns to block.

Large: Hawthorne Sport Multi, 500 yards, 4.25mm hook
Small: Hawthorne Fingering, 300 yards, 3.75mm hook

Exact gauge is unimportant for this pattern.
