The Orkney Islands are filled with iconic landmarks. This pattern celebrates the Old Man of Hoy, the Italian Chapel, Maeshowe, the Ring of Brodgar, and other common Orcadian sights. The colourwork is stranded and there are some quite long floats to carry so be sure you’re comfortable catching floats before you start. To work a larger or smaller hat try larger or smaller needles. Either the hat or cowl can be made from one hank of each colour. The hat is slightly slouchy, omitting the runes will give a snugger ‘beanie’ fit.

Yarn use:
2x50g hanks of Kinross 4ply (fingering weight lambswool, 205m/50g) in contrasting colours – 50g of each colour. Sample shown in Glen (Main Colour - MC) and Loch Ore (Contrast Colour - CC). The hat uses less than half the yarn, the cowl uses most of the yarn so if your tension is a bit looser you may want two hanks of each

Size:
Hat: To fit head approx 23”/58cm circumference. Cowl: Approx 40”/100cm diameter and 8”/20cm wide.
