Ornella is a generously-sized stole that will wrap around your shoulders and keep you warm like a giant hug. Inspired by the brilliant colors of this handpainted yarn, I wanted the shawl to look like colorful autumn leaves. To emulate the look of leaves dancing through the air as they fall from the trees, I designed the leaf lace motifs on a rippling mesh background giving the shawl an interesting sense of movement.

This shawl is worked from end to end, which makes its size easy to customize depending on the yardage you want to work with. It can be worked in almost any size, as a long and narrow scarf or even as a short neckwarmer. Beginner lace-knitter friendly, Ornella is an easy knit created with only basic lace stitches on the right side and simple purls on the wrong side. All of this makes Ornella fun and quick project as well as a perfect last minute gift.

This pattern was originally created for the 9th Annual Hill Country Yarn Crawl.
