The orthoceras (“straight horn”) was an ancient ancestor to modern-day octopus and squid. My nephew had this fossil, and wanted me to make a “living” version so he could show people what it looked like when it was alive.

It doesn’t really matter what yarn you use. I just included the ones I used because for once the random yarn in my stash actually had labels still on them. I had to pull the Touch of Alpaca yarn (purple) into two-ply from four, to make it thin enough to match the Chamonix (greys).

This orthoceras is about 4.5 inches long.
