The Osborne House Shawl. Owned by Mary Whitlock. Written & charted by A Passion For Lace / Kantwerk ©2024

This pattern ONLY comes in English. 34 pages.

This shawl was in ownership by Mary Whitlock and presented by her to the Fine Shetland Lace group on Facebook.
February 18th, 2022: Mary Whitlock posted several pictures of the shawl she had in possession.
It was a very beautiful, fine knit square with an amazing set of patterns. Some we had never seen before!

With her permission I was allowed to recreate it, I wrote the pattern for the square and for the rectangles. The square is exquisite and takes over 5000m of yarn.
The rectangles are very fine knit too and take (A) approx. 3200m or (B) 1800m of yarn. (depending on personal knitting tension).

Permission was granted by Mary Whitlock and Roslyn Chapman to use quotes.
The shawl now resides at the Shetland Museum and Archives for preservation.

I was able to make the pattern from the photo’s that Mary provided. In 2022, Susan Golden seaglass was visiting Shetland woolweek and was able to view the shawl in the Museum and check my pattern notes and charts for accuracy.

Very grateful to Monique Dreef woolly-oolly and Grant Mahy for knitting the examples and to Debbie for editing. And to Susan for her trip to Shetland. Thank you.
