“Oscar” is a maritime signal flag used to signal man overboard. My fiance works on the Columbia river. His last hat fell overboard, and being dark navy blue, was lost at sea. This pattern was his replacement hat. (He graciously posed for the pattern photos.)

Oscar is a bulky, tight knit watch cap with a four point crown, using centered double decreases. It’s inspired by and designed for late night maritime visibility, and takes one ball of Red Heart Reflective to knit.

Of course, if after dark sailing isn’t in your daily routine, Oscar makes a great hat for bikers, joggers, pet walking late at night…
