Ostarina Shawl
Ostara is the Spring equinox. When day and night are equal length. Its the time when the plants are putting out new growth. This shawl uses balance within it – there are two distinct lace patterns and it is symmetrical.
It is knit flat from the bottom up. The top edge is knit in such a way to minimise the number of stitches you need to cast off. Gauge is not important, but will affect the finished size. You want the fabric to drape nicely and show off the lace pattern so choosing yarn that can be easily blocked would work well too.
This pattern is written entirely in chart form with the exception of the cast off edging.
You’ll Need
- DK yarn (approx 750m)
- 5.5mm circular needle (with a 60cm cable or bigger)
- Stitch markers (optional - to mark centre stitches or any pattern repeats as you feel are necessary)
- Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)
My shawl ended up at 184cm at its widest point and 68cm from neck to bottom point.
This is currently untested except by me, the designer, if you do knit this I would really appreciate honest feedback about how it went for you! Please don’t hesitate to message me with any questions!
