As an independent pattern designer, it can be hard to fully put down my work, as I really do love to knit and I love to design. On a recent trip, I made it a point to leave some larger work at home and wound up a jumbo skein of fingering weight yarn for the occasion. The resulting design is OUT OF OFFICE, a shawl-like scarf (or scarf-like shawl?) designed for fingering weight yarn. The reversible textured pattern is intuitive to follow, and the resulting piece makes great use of a special skein. Directions are provided for 3 sizes. A mini scarf can be completed with 50 g of fingering weight yarn. The medium size is designed for a 100 g skein of yarn, and the large size is designed for a jumbo 150 g skein. In a pinch, the larger 2 sizes can even be styled as a hood.

FINISHED DIMENSIONS
Sizes: Mini (1, 2)
Length: 43” (63”, 79.5”) / 109 (160, 202) cm
Width at center 10.25” (14.5”, 18.5”) / 26 (37, 47) cm

GAUGE & NEEDLES
22 stitches and 29 rows = 4” / 10 cm in K2, P2, blocked. Gauge is not critical but will impact finished size and yarn requirements.
US 6 / 4.0 mm, or size needed to get gauge, either straight or circular (minimum overall length: 9” / 23 cm for straight needles, or 16” / 40 cm for circular)

Working with a different weight of yarn? No problem! Gauge will differ, but the concept of the design remains the same! Adjust needle size per preferred gauge.

This is a written pattern with a schematic and photo tutorials.
