Calls for “3 ounces of any 8-thread wool” and “two bone needles, No. 10, and six steel ones, No. 14.” *

The cuff is started flat on the larger needles, first in stockinette and then in brioche. When the mittens are finished and the cuff has been seamed, the stockinette section is folded to the inside and sewn down, creating a faced cuff.

After the cuff, work is switched to the round on the smaller needles. The wrist is ribbed with an eyelet round in the middle, for a ribbon. The hand and thumb are worked in a kind of broken seed stitch until the decreases.

For vintage needles, higher numbers mean smaller needles.
