Overalls (dungarees)
These overalls, or dungarees, are designed to fit any of my Painted Cricket animals. They start at the bottom and work up to the front bib. Optional short rows give the hips a little more room - and help your animal sit more comfortably.

Note that this pattern is for the overalls only. The animal and shoe patterns are separate.

You need to have…

  • Yarn in desired color and the same weight as that used for the animal you knit: (~.75oz/25g for DK or sport weight; ~1.5oz/50g for worsted)
  • Straight knitting needles at least 2 sizes larger than those used to knit your animal. (I find the size recommended for the yarn being used often works well.)
  • Tapestry needle
  • 2 small buttons

You need to know (or learn)…

  • Stockinette stitch
  • Garter stitch
  • Short rows for the hips (instructions included)
  • Increase and decrease stitches
  • Mattress stitch for sewing seams
