MATERIALS AND TOOLS
1. Yarn for crocheting and crochet hook:

  • You can choose the color, thickness and texture of the yarn to your taste. I recommend that you try to crochet your owl using 2-3 threads: choose different colors and textures of threads to create an interesting effect of the work surface. For example, one of the threads can be textured, and the second one can be thinner and smoother - acrylic, woolen, from mixed fibers.
  • select the size of the hook for the thickness of the yarn. The owls in the photo are crocheted with 4 mm crochet hook, you can crochet according to this tutorial with a smaller size hook. The size of your finished work will depend on the thickness of the chosen yarn and the size of the crochet hook. - you may use thin cotton thread and a crochet hook suitable in size to create the whites of the eyes.
  1. A needle for assembling with an eye through which the thread passes.
  2. Ready-made eyes of a suitable size. You can make the eyes by yourself in different ways (they are described in this tutorial).
  3. A wire for the frame in toes and beak (for owls in the photo I use galvanized steel wire with a diameter of 1 mm), tools for working with wire. Choose the thickness of the thread depending on the size of the owl. If desired, you can install a frame from the top of the head to the bottom of the owl, which will make the owl to be able to slightly tilt its head.
  4. Toy stuffing (fiber filler).
  5. If desired, special metal granulate or metal balls may be used (they may be found in fishing and hunting stores (see photo)). You may not use it at all – an owl will have additional points of support and, despite the large heavy head, sits stably. The use of the metal granulate gives the work an additional pleasant weight.
  6. Polyurethane based glue to create and glue toes, beak and eyes.
  7. Materials for tinting. You can use dry pastel, eyeshadow, textile marker. You can fix the tinting on textured yarn with hairspray.
