If you have knowledge on how to work in the round with increases and decreases you won’t have any trouble. This is probably not a beginner level pattern, although if you know how to work holding two strands of yarn, you won’t have any trouble.

You may make and sell products from my patterns, but please do me the kindness of linking back to my pattern and mentioning The Burgundy Basket with links where applicable to all the photos you put online.

The Owl Pillow Cover is part of a baby set that is listed as an Ebook here in my Ravelry. This pattern is just for the Owl Pillow cover, but I have also listed in my Ravelry Store a rug/playmat, a large Flower Cushion and a small Owl toy. f

This Owl Cover can also be used as a “sack” for storage of sweaters and small blankets or you can attach a strap to make a tote bag.

yarn tip: when I began the entire project that included the Woodland Animals (also in my Ravelry Store), I started with 3 skeins of 8 colors in Impeccable Yarn. (24 skeins) I started with blue, green, pink, dark purple, dark and light gray, brown and beige. I used just about every single bit if you want to create the whole set.

The pillow cover is for a 14” pillow, but I give details in the pattern about how you can adapt these to make different sizes.

Materials for the owl pillow cover, rug/playmat, flower pillow and owl toy:

-Large button in Orange or Yellow for the beak on the owl cover/pillow

  • Pillow form. This owl pillow cover worked up for me to use a 14” pillow form. You can easily modify this as it’s a super simple pattern.

Hooks: Size L/8mm hook for the blanket and K/6.5mm for the pillows. Size I/5.5 mm was used for the eyes on the owl pillow cover. For the little owl toy, gauge isn’t super important. Use the hook size that gives you tight stitches for your yarn. I have used my G/4mm and H/5mm hooks.

Yarns: The baby set is made from holding two strands of yarn together throughout all pieces- except for the eyes on the owl pillow cover. The white yarn is Big Twist Classic in White (690 yds/11oz/630m/310g). You will need a full skein of this and maybe part of another depending on your gauge for the blanket/play mat. Big Twist is labeled a #5 yarn, but in my experience, it works up like a small #4 yarn, so I treat it as a #4 yarn. If you are making both the owl pillow cover and the blanket and want to use a second strand of white instead of two of the color, you need two skeins. I have used the same yarn in all projects. The 2nd strand of yarn is Loops & Threads Impeccable (Impeccable is 285 yds/4.5oz260m/127.5g. It is a #4 Yarn) For the blanket in order from the center is Soft Rose, Plum, Misty Blue, Green Lagoon and True Gray. You will need a skein for each color in the blanket and 2 skeins for each color in the owl pillow cover. I used two colors/skeins for the for the pillow cover, I have alternated Classic Grey and Putty (two strands of each held together) and the eyes are in Barley.
