The inspiration for this design was a favourite childhood book – The Owl Service by Alan Garner, which is in part a retelling of the old Welsh legend of Blodeuwedd, a woman who was created out of flowers for her husband (who is under a magic curse that he cannot marry a mortal woman), but who betrays him and is turned into an owl as punishment.

I originally made the design as a cowl, but I had many requests to adapt it to a sweater that I decided to accept the challenge of turning a flat motif into a 3D yoke design.

The Owl sweater is knitted top down, in the round, with a stranded yoke.

Sizing - instructions are given for sizes S, M, L, XL and XXL - so you’re good if you fall within the following size ranges:
Chest 82 - 138 cm (32 - 54 inches)
Waist: 59 - 114 cm (23 - 44 inches)
Hips: 88 - 144 cm (34.5 - 57 inches)

Can be adjusted to be longer or shortened to make a more cropped top.

Sleeve length can be adjusted - full or 3/4.

Easy to adjust for a looser or a more tailored fit around the waist.

You will need around 500g of yarn around 400g in the main colour and 100g in the contrast colour.

Charts and full instructions included.

Errata: There isn’t a neck pattern on this sweater, so where it says: “knit as far as the center of the neck pattern” - actually you can start at the start of the round.
