Paint Pots Shawl
INTRODUCTORY PROMO! Through the end of Sunday, 4/19 (PST), this and all my other patterns and ebooks will be 25% off.
Order these colorways at Yarnaceous Fibers!
Smell the sulphur! As an Idaho girl, the colorway Yellowstone from Yarnaceous Fibers is so evocative and nostalgic for me. I can easily see the weathered wooden walkways and clouds of steam as I explore the colorful hot pots of Yellowstone National Park, first as a child and then later with my own family. Don’t forget to stop for huckleberry ice-cream!
This piece begins with just two stitches and increases at the end of every RS row until almost every last bit of yarn is used. After that, a strong blocking transforms it into a graceful, asymmetrical triangular shawl.
This pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions.
Recommended Yarn:
Yarnaceous Fibers Salta Fingering — 85% superwash merino / 15% nylon — 437 yds (400 m) to 100 g. Shown in colorways Yellowstone (MC = Main Color) and Blue Slate (CC = Contrast Color).
Pattern uses one skein of each colorway and is intended to use up almost all available yarn - up to 874 yds (799 m). The majority of the pattern can also be worked with any two 100 g skeins of fingering weight yarn, ideally at least 800 yds (731 m) in total.
Sizing (for sample shawl):
52.5” (133 cm) along right edge, 64” (162 cm) along increase edge, 37.5” (95 cm) along top edge.
Blocked Gauge:
23 sts and 34 rows to 4” (10 cm) in garter st / 22 sts and 30 rows in lace pattern, strongly blocked.
Needles:
US 5 (3.75 mm) circular needle, 24” or longer, plus US 6 (4 mm) needle for i-cord bind-off (or needle one size larger than whatever is used for main body).
PLEASE NOTE: I actually knit the sample with a US 6 (4 mm) needle and a US 7 (4.5 mm) for the bind-off, but as I tend to knit fairly tightly, I’ve listed needles one size smaller. Changes in gauge will affect finished size, look of motifs, and amount of yarn used. To meet these dimensions and to ensure enough yarn, be certain to use needle size that gives gauge.
Other Materials:
Up to 25 stitch markers, one removeable marker (optional), tapestry needle, yarn scale (strongly recommended).
Many thanks to Maggie of Yarnaceous Fibers for her support! This pattern was professionally tech edited by Lisa Beth Houchins (Meanest Mommy Knits).
