This shawl is the Opinicon Knit Weekend’s official KAL for 2019.
Inspired by the favourite photo of 2018, a teal and black window at the Opinicon, the colourway “Amy’s Window” was created by Pretty.Strings exclusively for the Painted Glass Shawl.
With an art deco feel, this shawl has wings that wrap around to sit securely over the shoulders, so no shawl pin is necessary (though a pin could make a lovely accessory!). The shawl features a unique stitch called Continuing Icord that was developed by the designer, and other wonderful textural stitches chosen for their ability to show off variegated yarns.

There are two sizes:
Demure (8th photo) which wraps over the shoulder down to the middle of the upper arm and centre of the back, and meets in front with a slight overlap at the tips. Depth at centre back 75 cm, width tip to tip along neck edge 125 cm.
Dramatic (seen in top 7 photos on size 22 model) wraps generously over the shoulders down to just below the elbow and the lower back, and overlaps in the front. Depth at centre back 80 cm, width tip to tip along neck edge 145 cm

It’s possible to make an even larger shawl by using a larger weight yarn and needles, or increasing the repeats of section 4 or the lace border.

There are a limited number of Painted Glass Shawl Kits still available in the exclusive “Amy’s Window” colourway seen in the photos. Each kit includes 1 or 2 skeins of the MC, and a mini skein of black CC.
