On the model’s left arm, and on the left side of the shawl as shown, you can see Potter’s little garter ‘rib’ pattern. That, and the double line of eyelets marching up the back of the piece, is the only patterning in this basic shawl. Yet the designer has judged the piece very well: knitting a variegated sock yarn in this simple a pattern, at this loose a gauge, turns out to result in a shawl of fluid charm. Instructions are both charted (in a large format) and written out; worked from the bottom point up to the neck/shoulders.
