A black and white baby blanket with the illusion of a panda. Look at it from straight in front and you only see black and white stripes; look from an angle and you will see the panda.

This is a complex design as it is very difficult to show the distinct areas of black and white and still be able to see the panda’s legs and body. It is still a very easy piece to knit. Only one yarn is used on each row and there are only two different colours. If you can knit, purl and count, you can do this.

One of the photos shows what you see when you look straight at the front of the blanket.

This can be made in any yarn. Using DK it measures about 80 cm x 100 cm (32” x 40”).

Amount of yarn (if using DK)

  • Approximately 600 metres (660 yards) light
  • Approximately 500 metres (550 yards) dark

A very minor mistake in the chart for this pattern has just been pointed out to me. On ridge 53 of the chart, coming up to stitch 100, there are two and a half squares coloured in. This should be three squares coloured.
