A completely reversible, versatile and unisex pattern, the Paper Bag Hat is adaptable to your preferences: long and slouchy or a perfectly-fitting beanie. If you want, you can knit your entire hank and still have both options as the brim can be folded over a couple of times. An optional garter band is included in all three patterns should you want a more finished edge (that is still reversible!).

This pattern is written for fingering, sport and DK weight yarns on three separate patterns; however, if you know your gauge and preferred needle sizes for other yarn weights you can easily modify it to fit your head measurement as long as the stitch count is divisible by 4. I recommend keeping to a tight gauge around the band area as there is no ribbing to assist with ease.

Note that a fingering version may require a little more fiddling - you may want even more stitches than suggested on a different needle size. Just use the bones of the pattern as it’s adaptable to the number of stitches you need for a fabric and fit you want.
