Sizes: teen/adult S (adult M/L) with finished circumference approximately 17 (20)“/42.5 (50) cm to fit head circumference of approximately 21 (24)”/53 (60) cm.

Gauge: 12 sts and 16 rounds to 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch/ 3.5 sts to 4” in cable pattern.

Yarn: Super bulky yarn, 110 (125) yards/100 (115) meters/140 (160) grams for the slouchy version, as seen in the sample; slightly less for a closer-fitting beanie. The yarn used for the sample was Manos del Uruguay “Franca,” a single-ply 100% wool yarn with 114 yards/104 meters per 150 grams.
Yarns that are very similar to this include Malabrigo Mecha or Noventa and Madelinetosh ASAP.

Needles: US 11/8.0 mm and US 10/6.0 mm, or size to obtain gauge plus two sizes smaller.
This hat is worked in the round. A 16”/40 cm circular needle is recommended. You will also need dpns or a long circular needle for the Magic Loop method as the number of stitches decreases at the crown of the hat.
