We all have those teensy tiny scraps and wonder what to do with them, so I came up with this idea. It uses only about 5g of each color for the knitted part. I also wanted something that would be completely portable. So I can take a bag of scrap yarns with me and make the squares wherever I am. Then I sew them together at home when I have about 4 completed. These work up quickly and are easy enough to make while talking and knitting.

A lot of the inspiration for this pattern came from my sewing background and the way patchwork quilt blocks are framed with solid material. I wanted the colors in this to really pop, so I needed to set them together with a solid color.

This blanket can be made as big or as small as you want. I started with a block of four squares and will continue to add squares until the blanket is big enough to use as a throw for the sofa.

Gauge:
Gauge is not crucial for this project. Just make sure you have a fabric that is not too loose or too stiff. You want the blanket to drape but also be dense enough to provide enough warmth.

Each center square measures 4”x 4”.

I used garter stitch but you may substitute stockinette or stitch pattern of your choice for a different texture.

Yarn:
Fingering Weight Yarn - each knitted square uses about 5 grams of yarn. I used different color scraps for each square and solid black between the squares.
Other yarn weights could be used, just adjust needle and hook sizes accordingly.

Materials:
Size US 2 (2.75mm) needles
Size C (2.75mm) crochet hook
Needle to sew finished squares together
