This pattern is one of 27 patterns from The Vintage Shetland Project and is now available as a single pattern. Paterson is a stylish short sleeved sweater with typical style details of the 1940s. It has a neatly fitting body, set-in puff sleeves and a high neckline fastened with either a zip or button fastenings at the back neck. A myriad of motifs are worked for the all-over colourwork design using contrasting pale and dark blue backgrounds with traditional red, yellow and natural white used for the foreground patterns.

Pattern Notes
The main body is worked in the round from the bottom up to the armhole divide. At this point, stitches are placed on waste yarn at the underarms and steek stitches added. Steek stitches are also added for back and front neck openings. Shoulders are joined using three needle cast off. The sleeves are also knitted in the round from the bottom up, with steek stitches worked at the sleeve head. The sleeves are then sewn into the main body. A zip or press fasteners are sewn into the back neck opening for ease of fitting. Charts plus written instructions are provided for each size. The sample shown in the photographs is the second size, worn with zero ease.
