This traditional lace cable pattern is worn here by a young piper on her kilt hose but although attributed to Scotland, it is also a stitch pattern found in Austria and Southern Germany. The socks are given in one size but are easily adapted for different leg lengths and foot lengths. The leg can be lengthened above the calf shaping or below it and the foot can be worked to any required length. Additional fitting is given by the elasticity of the ribbed panels between the openwork cable lines.
