This sideways knit shrug starts with a bit of ribbing at the cuff and then switches from knitting in the round to knitting flat to acheive the shrug shape. Wrapped stitches give a bit of extra texture to the lace pattern in this shrug as well.

This shrug is meant to fit more snugly across the shoulder and curl up a bit at the edges due to the ribbing. Pay attention to the directions for the needle sizes as I also switched sizes from cuff to body and back again.

This pattern is meant for intermediate knitters to experienced knitters and all those in-between. Please read the entire pattern before beginning.

Yarn: Lilliput Simple Sock, 600 yards, 80% Merino, 20% Nylon, (you will need 700 yards for the XL size, using another yarn for a contrasting cuff would be a great way to make this in XL)

Needle: US 2 (2.75mm) and US 4 (3.5 mm) Signature circulars and double pointed needles or needles to obtain gauge

Gauge: 6 stitches per inch (spi) and 9 rows per inch (rpi) OR 24 stitches & 36 rows to 4 inches/10 cm in stockinette on US 4s

Size: M, L, XL, (36”, 38”, 40”)

To alter the size: Adjust your gauge to increase or decrease the size of the shrug as needed. You may also add repeats of the center chart to make the shrug wider through the shoulder. Additionally, you can add stitches to the ribbing in the cuffs and along the edging to make the sleeves bigger. These changes will use more yarn!
