Pavey Wavey

The Scots name for a children’s skipping game (which involves leaping over a zigzagging rope) gives its name to this rollneck pullover, with its zigzagging colourwork motifs.

Pattern notes
This comfortable, drop-sleeved pullover is worked from the bottom up, following a chart with a zig-zagging colourwork pattern. A series of increase rounds are worked between pattern repeats to shape the body, then two steeks are added (one at each underarm) and the armscye is worked in the round to the required depth. After the steek stitches are bound off, and stitches for the front and back neck are set aside, the shoulder slopes are shaped with a series of short rows which are worked back and forth in stockinette. After the shoulders are joined with a three needle bind off, the steeks are reinforced and cut, before stitches are picked up around the armscyes to work each sleeve from the top down. A ribbed rollneck completes the pullover.
