This shawl is worked flat from the top down. A large garter stitch tab cast on is worked to set up a complicated lace section that is followed by a section featuring columns of eyelets and an extensive garter stitch section that finishes off the shawl.

Each edge of the shawl features a 3-stitch garter stitch border. Increasing eyelets are worked at each edge of the shawl and on either side of a center stitch on the RS rows. All stitches in the first two sections, except for those worked for the garter stitch borders, are purled on WS rows. The center stitch in the final garter stitch section is the only stitch that is purled on WS rows.

Only RS rows are charted. All charted rows are read from right to left.

The sample was made with DK weight handspun 2-ply yarn featuring Fibre Optic Yarns Merino/Silk top, color Pantone 7690-348 gradient. The yarn was wound into two skeins, each moving from green to blue. The shawl is started with the green end of one gradient skein. When the first skein runs out, the blue end of the second skein is started.
