Pawn Pusher Beanie
In the end game, there’s nothing wrong with just pushing a pawn. At least, that’s what my chess-champ husband tells me. Pawns are often overlooked as useless pieces, but if you can manage to push a pawn past your opponent’s defenses and to the other side of the board, it can become the most powerful piece in play with just one move. This hat is an homage to this little but mighty piece and, most of all, to my favorite pusher of pawns. He deserves another handknit.
This hat is worked in the round from the bottom-up by first casting on stitches for the brim before transitioning into stockinette stitch, then working the colorwork motif. Crown decreases are worked across seven shaping points before securing the top with your yarn tail. The cherry on top is the big, fluffy pop-pom attached after blocking!
