PBB aka Puto Bumbong
Note
PBB, i.e., Puto Bumbong, is a sweet Filipino snack traditionally eaten after Simbang Gabi (Catholic Mass held daily in the early morning from December 16 to 24) in the Philippines. PBB is a glutinous purple rice cake (puto) that is steamed in a bamboo tube (bumbong). Topped with margarine or butter, PBB is often served with desiccated coconut, sugar (e.g., panucha/palm sugar, muscovado), and sometimes, cheese (e.g., queso de bola, cheddar).
This pattern features 2 PBBs with accompanying coconut, panucha, and margarine atop a banana leaf and served in a bilao (a woven bamboo or rattan tray). The finished product is approximately 6.5 cm in diameter. At this size, it can easily be converted into a Christmas tree ornament, bag charm, or brooch.
