I’ve knit another flower for remembrance, this time a poppy. Remembrance day is coming up (in the UK at least), so very soon poppies are going to be everywhere. Although the red poppies are more prominent, I’m quite partial to the message of pacifism, anti-militarism and remembrance that the white version conveys, and I’ll be making some of these to give out in the run up to Remembrance day.

The stem and body of the flower are knit in one piece (as per the Forget-Me-Not pattern), and the petals are picked up and knit flat afterwards. The poppy’s petals are knit in seed stitch, which is a bit more time consuming, but gives them a thickness and softness that I find very pleasing. I’ve also switched from pipe cleaners to floristry wire to support the stems, as it is much better at supporting the flower’s weight. Skills required:
casting on and joining in the round,
i-cord
knitting,
purling
kfb,
k2tog,
p2tog,
binding off,
