Comfortable, cozy, simple, classic…. this is the cardigan I would like to hang on the hook next to the door in the summerhouse. Always available and easy to grab whenever going for a walk along the shore…. As fashionable by the sea for a walk as in the city for brunch with friends. So easy to wear with favourite jeans, a blouse with a funny print, your wide-legged linen trousers at the sea brows….. I added pockets for treasures like pretty shells and pebbles, and a belt and generous shawl collar to make it possible to wrap up against the breeze.

I knitted up this cardigan in heavenly Aran from Artesano, in the shade Birch. I could never have dreamt it to be so gorgeous. Soft and smooth it knitted up beautifully, showing off the textures just perfectly.
The knitting was fast, and I really loved making this cardi!

I revisited and refreshed the pattern the 31st of August 2018.

You can follow my new pattern releases and my designs on Facebook: Anne B Hanssen Design.

The cardi is knitted bottom-up and in seperate pieces. The shawl-collar is integrated in the fronts which means less seaming for finishing. Pockets are set-in. The main-pattern is a moss-stitch pattern which gives a nice texture. Cables and twisted stiches are added for interest, both for the knitting and for the finished result. The cables are easy to work following charts, and as they are repetitive they are easily memorized.

Finished bust measurements: Size 1: 88cm/35”/ Size 2: 96cm/38” / Size 3: 105cm/ 41” / Size 4: 117cm/46”.
The bust circumference is when the fronts are folded over (the double of the back measurement).

Constructions When I use aran and heavy weight yarns I prefer to make up the garments with seams - this ensures that the garment will stay within its proportions. So, yes, the cardigan is seamed…
Back, fronts and sleeves are worked flat and bottom up.
The collar is integrated in the knitting.
The sleeves are worked with pocket linings (make them more or less deep).

Materials
Yarn: I used the gorgeous ”Aran” from Artesano to make this cardi. This yarn of aran weight is a blend of 50% wool and 50% alpaca It comes in skeins of 100gr/3,53oz and 132metres/144yards. You will need 9/10/12/14 skeins. The amount needed may vary as we all knit in different ways. Needles: You will need straight needles 4,5mm/US7 (or needle size to obtain gauge). Notions: You will need 2 stitch-holders for the pockets. Stitch-markers. A cable-needle.

This cardigan is supposed to have a loose and comfortable fit.

Gauge for moss-stitch = 19 sts to 10cm/4”

The pattern The cable patterns are charted (only).
All measurements are in cm’s as well as in inches. All mecessary stitch-counts are given.
