I met Peedie, a beautiful wee barn owl, at Skaill House Falconry on the island of Orkney, Scotland.
She was lovely! When I saw Akara Yarns’ colourway “Bear With Me” it instantly brought to mind the colours of Peedie. And so the Peedie Owl pattern was born.
The body of this owl is knit bottom up in the round with short row shaping (instructions in pattern). The face, featuring a contrast colour celtic cable, is knit flat and sewn on. The wings are also knit flat, sewn on, and lightly stuffed. For the claws we return to knitting in the round to join the Icords used for each toe that are over a pipe cleaner so they actually grip.

Skill Level: intermediate to advanced

  • Knitting in the round
  • Intarsia Cabling (video link)
  • Turkish cast on (instructions in pattern)
  • Icord (instructions in pattern)
  • German Short Rows (instructions in pattern)

The pattern calls for
1 skein of Akara Yarns’ Merino DK (Bear With Me)
2 mini skeins of Akara Yarns’ Merino DK (Toasted Marshmallow & Incense)
