Peek-a-boo! is a pretty little drawstring ditty bag with a surprise hidden under its’ stripes. At first glance, we notice the textured contrasting stripes that seem to dominate its’ surface, but when it’s laid down flat an image appears seemingly out of nowhere. Now you see it! Now you don’t!

Illusion/Shadow knitting is easier that it looks, I promise. The hardest part is to make sure that you’re reading the charts in the right direction. If you don’t like charts it’s even easier. Just follow the written instructions. Best yet is that there is no need to sew in tons of ends. The yarn is always carried up the side of the work. Easy Peasy!

The prototype was made with the following materials :

Yarn - MC fingering weight 88-97 yds/ 80-90 m
CC fingering weight 88-97 yds/ 80-90 m

Other yarn weights may be used to make a bigger bag. However you should adjust yarn quantities and needle sizes accordingly.

Needle size - US 0 (2mm)

2 dpns for i-cord

Needle for seaming

Gauge is not important. However your gauge should be a bit on the tight side so that the illusion works properly.

Size - for a fingering weight version @8” (20cm) length x 6 3/4” (17cm) width for a finished bag.
