Peggy, Pedro and Pepe Penguin is a pattern designed to represent the CIBC Aventura Visa Card Penguin. I was approached by members of the Canadian bank to make a knit copy of their mascot for the credit card.
The entire pattern was designed from a 2” plastic toy the bank gave me.
It is a relatively easy knit but one must be sure to read the entire pattern before starting. It is knit on straight needles, (although it could be done on dpns or circulars) and is formed in the shape of a triangle. The base (the derriere of the bird) is a triangle and the sides are divided into three equal parts forming a triangular knit.
The only difficulty is the working in of the white section on the chest area . The seam for the joining of the sides is at the left edge of the chest.. thus there are decreases and increases needed to make the animal slimmer as you work your way up the body but at the same time you are working in the white yarn for the chest.
Pepe is simpler, worked in Eyelash type yarn ( I actually used a ball of Dollorama eyelash yarn) and does not incorporate the white chest area.
I also include two ways to attach the orange feet on the birds.
I attach several photos with the text to help with the understanding and construction.
Hopefully everyone will love Peggy,Pedro and Pepe as much as CIBC did when they put them on display.
